Weber's Call
2019
for solo horn and ensemble
Programme Note
When composing this piece, I wanted to capture the story ofWeber's journey and document it in a way that would make sense to him - through music. As the music meanders through several keys they main motif is reinterpreted, transposed, and inverted to serve as a reminder of home. For Weber, it was his bugle that provided a sense of stability. No matter where he was in the war, he would play the same material on his bugle and although it might sound different as he travels across the world, the core foundation of it would remain constant. I wanted to capture this with sense of journey with the development of the motif and putting old material in the new situations.
